What Makes Mesima Special
Slow-Grown and Rare
Mesima grows slowly on the trunks of mulberry and other hardwood trees, forming a hard, woody, hoof-shaped cap. Its scarcity in the wild is part of why it has always been so highly prized.
Polysaccharides and Polyphenols
Mesima is rich in polysaccharides and naturally occurring polyphenols, including the hispidin compounds that give its underside a golden-yellow color.
A Tea Mushroom
Because the fruiting body is so tough and woody, it has traditionally been simmered into a mild, amber tea rather than eaten. Our fine powder makes that ritual simple.
Featured in Joint & Flex
Mesima is one of the four rare mushrooms in our Joint & Flex blend, alongside Reishi, Royal Sun Blazei and Agarikon.
History & Tradition
Korea
Known as Sang Hwang, meaning yellow mulberry, Mesima has been one of the most prized mushrooms in Korean tradition, where it is still brewed as a daily tea.
Japan & China
In Japan it is called Meshimakobu and in China Sang Huang. Records of its use as a tea go back centuries in traditional Asian herbal practice.
How to Use
Mesima has a mild, slightly woody flavor that suits tea best. Stir it into hot water with honey and lemon, green tea, or your morning coffee.
Serving size: 1 scoop (1 g). Mix about 2 grams into your favorite hot beverage and enjoy daily. 60 servings per 2.1 oz pouch, 226 servings per 8 oz jar.
